Discover the wonderful world of your own microbiome!
Have you ever wondered what your body does for you without you even noticing? Learn about your microbiome – the invisible network of trillions of microorganisms that live in and on your body. These tiny helpers are invaluable to your health and well-being.
Do you suffer from inflammation and associated pain in your joints, irritable bowel syndrome, digestive problems, etc.?
Do you have a genetic risk of developing tumours in the intestine?
We shed light on the situation with a microbiome analysis and special additional analyses.
What is the microbiome?
The microbiome is the totality of all microorganisms – such as bacteria, viruses and fungi – that exist in and on our bodies. They are particularly numerous in our intestines, but they also perform valuable services on our skin, in our mouths and in other areas of the body. It is a unique ecosystem that is individual to each person, similar to a fingerprint.
Why is the microbiome so important?
The microbiome plays a crucial role in many areas of our health:
- Digestion and nutrient absorption: It helps digest food and absorb essential nutrients. If you are lacking important bacteria, you may not be able to properly utilise your food. In this case, even micronutrients will not help.
- Immune system: A healthy microbiome strengthens our immune system and protects us from harmful germs. If your microbiome is not diverse enough or lacks immunogenic bacteria, it makes you susceptible to diseases and allergies.
- Mental health: The microbiome communicates with our brain and can influence our mood and behaviour. You will be amazed at the connections between your microbiome and mood swings and depression.
- Obesity and the yo-yo effect: You have problems losing weight permanently and want to know why. A look at your microbiome can give you information about this. We will show you how.
- Skin health: A balanced skin microbiome protects against skin diseases and supports the skin barrier.
What harms your microbiome?
The microbiome is a delicate ecosystem that can be disrupted by various factors. Here are some of the main causes that can damage the microbiome:
1. Antibiotics, cortisone, medications
Antibiotics not only fight harmful bacteria, but also the beneficial bacteria in the microbiome. This can significantly disrupt the balance of the microbiome and lead to reduced diversity. Repeated or unnecessary use of antibiotics can cause long-term damage. The same applies to cortisone and medications that are taken over a longer period of time.
2. Unhealthy diet
A diet rich in sugar, saturated fats and processed foods can have a negative impact on the microbiome. These foods promote the growth of harmful bacteria and reduce the diversity of beneficial microorganisms.
3. Stress
Chronic stress can throw the microbiome out of balance. Stress hormones affect the intestinal barrier and promote inflammation, which can disrupt the microbiome.
4. Lack of sleep
Adequate sleep is crucial for a healthy microbiome. Lack of sleep can affect the balance of the intestinal flora and lead to a lower diversity of microorganisms.
5. Environmental factors
Pollution, chemicals and pesticides can damage the microbiome. Excessive hygiene and frequent use of disinfectants can also reduce the beneficial bacteria on the skin and in other parts of the body.
6. Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption can have a negative impact on the microbiome. Alcohol promotes inflammation and can damage the intestinal barrier, which encourages the growth of harmful bacteria.
7. Lack of physical activity
A lack of exercise can impair the microbiome. Regular physical activity promotes the diversity of microorganisms and supports a healthy balance.
8. Smoking
Smoking has been shown to have negative effects on the microbiome. It can alter the composition of microorganisms and promote inflammation.
9. Infections and diseases
Certain infections and chronic diseases can upset the balance of the microbiome. Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are examples of conditions that can have a significant impact on the microbiome.
How does it work?
We will conduct a microbiome test tailored to your personal profile.
After completing the questionnaire, you will receive our test kit by post.
Approximately 14 days after sending in your samples, you will receive your personal results from us.
Upon request and if necessary, we will create a personalised treatment plan for you.
We won't forget about you:
You will receive a reminder for a follow-up check-up in 3-4 months. This is the only way to know whether everything is back on track or whether further adjustments are needed.
However, you will usually feel a noticeable improvement after 4-6 weeks.
