Medicines

Medicines and micronutrients use the same transport and metabolic pathways in the human organism when they are absorbed and metabolised. If you take one or more medicines, there is therefore always a risk of effects on the metabolism of essential micronutrients. This process can disrupt both the effect of the medicine and the physiological function of a vitamin, mineral, etc.

An impairment of your micronutrient balance is not without consequences in the long term. This often leads to further illnesses and subsequently to further medication.

The micronutrient balance of a healthy person with a balanced diet is generally little affected by the short-term intake of medication. Apart from antibiotics and cortisone medication. With an inadequate nutrient supply and long-term and polypharmacotherapy (i.e. taking several drugs at the same time), the interactions between drugs and micronutrients are definitely relevant and should not be underestimated. Antibiotics and cortisone can have an effect on the intestinal flora/microbiome even if taken for a short time, which can manifest itself in the long term with other symptoms.

Vitamin shock / micronutrients, vitamins, minerals etc.

The flood of micronutrients, whether in adverts or in the supermarket, is almost impossible to avoid. Corona has also fuelled strong growth in the micronutrient industry. As questionable as it is that very few people think about the interactions of pharmaceutical drugs, it is just as frightening that people simply start supplementing with vitamins and the like. Neither co-factors are taken into account nor are massive overdoses avoided. And thanks to the internet, it should also be cheap...

We at ZellMed are more than critical of such behaviour. We are of the opinion that a well-founded laboratory analysis should serve as a basis before taking specific micronutrients. In addition to assessing the course and therapy of pharmacotherapy (drugs), we are now increasingly able to reveal your micronutrient status thanks to state-of-the-art laboratory diagnostics.

No matter which pharmaceutical (whether contraceptive, diabetes, blood pressure or antidepressant medication), every medication logically has an effect. And, as is so often the case, an interaction or side effect.

At ZellMed, you can easily clarify step by step whether and what effects your medication has on your micronutrient balance. Of course, we are also there for you for further steps.
